The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDMP, Professor Pat Utomi, has indicated his possible withdrawal from the race for the presidency in the April polls.

He condemned what he described as the inability of major players in the progressive camp to put the nation’s interest before theirs by forging a coalition of the progressives that will act as counter-weight to the ruling PDP.
Professor Pat Utomi disclosed he had hoped that Nigeria would metamorphose into a two-party state with an opposition strong enough to wrest power from the PDP.
The SDMP presidential candidate says “I am giving myself one more week to see through this process to a logical conclusion. If nothing is forthcoming, I would withdraw from the process and focus my energy on youth development and empowerment. I will seek to inspire the youths of this nation to live above the constraints of their environment to achieve their full potentials within a nation that seems determined to remain poor and backwards”.
The Unanswered Questions:
Can Nigeria ever evolve into a two-party state considering the level of greed and self-centredness of our political leaders? Do our leaders really desire the economic and political growth of the country or that of their pockets? Is two-party system really the solution to the various leadership crises prevalent in Nigeria?
The truth is, neither two-party nor multi-party systems will bring lasting solutions to our nation's teeming problems if those entrusted with the leadership of the polity are so depraved both in character and in mind as to compromise the future and happiness of those they govern.
